Week Three

Accomplishments: This week I sanded over my body and rounded the edges. I got the sides all smooth and it now shows no signs of the factory.

Tools: I used the router table to round the edges, the belt sander to fix up some of my edges, the spindle sander to fix my horn, and a hand sander to fully smooth out the sides using 220 sand paper.

New learning: I learned that using 120 sand paper doesn’t make the sides as smooth as using 220 sand paper, in total I learned that there are different types of sandpaper.

Week Two

Accomplishments: This week I sanded my entire outside of the body and then sanded down my neck so it slid into the body with ease.

Tools: I used the belt sander to sand the edges of my body and then a hand held sander for the neck of my guitar to be able to slide it into.

New Learning: I learned that I’m able to round my body with a belt sander. I also learned that it is easier to use the machine than the hand sander because it takes less time.

Week One

Accomplishments: This week I worked on making my headstock shape. I was able to cut out the shape and sand it down so there weren’t any rough edges.

Tools: To complete the headstock I had to first use the bandsaw to cut off the tabs that were made originally. Then I had to carve out my design leaving relief cuts since I couldn’t just cut it. I then sanded it down using a spindle sander to get the desired shape.

New learning: I learned that the bandsaw blade was a little old so it caused it to be tougher. I also learned that it was easier than I thought it would be. I was able to figure out how to sand and do that on my own which made me feel more comfortable with the process.
